16x12 Oil
"Self Portrait"
I painted this on an acrylic primed linen stretched canvas.  I think I like the oil primed linen canvas better.  This one seemed too rough for me.  I used a 1" grid for the drawing.  I transferred the drawing to the canvas using white Saral wax free transfer paper.

"Three Red Apples"

9x12  painted on an oil primed linen panel.
This was painted using my new Geneva Oil Paints.  These paints are created by Mark Carder.  At this time they are sold in jars.  They have a medium in them which keeps the paint wet on your palette and canvas for close to ten to fourteen days. They are rich and beautiful paints.
They can be purchased through Geneva Fine Art Supplies 205-527-9182.  Or, check out the Draw Mix Paint Forum where you can watch videos about his products.

My copy of "Repose"

My attempt at painting John Singer Sargent's "Repose"
I painted mine on an 18"x24" primed smooth artist panel with a 1.5" cradle edge.  I was able to get this slightly damaged panel for $10 while at Dick's Outlet in Illinois.
I found this to be a challenge but I enjoyed painting it.
The original hangs in the National Gallery of Art in DC.  I was able to get a nice print while at their museum.  The print is what I used to get my color matching.  No, I didn't draw this on my board. It would have taken me hours.  I just wanted to start painting!  I took a picture of the print with my camera and then enlarged to my panel size in Adobe Photo.  I printed (in sections) onto plain computer paper.  Then I transferred to the panel using Saral transfer paper.

Panda

12x12 Oil
I thought I would paint a Panda for my twin granddaughter's 4th birthday.
I painted this on Ampersand primed smooth 1.5" cradle panel.

The Millinery Shop

18x16 Oil on texture panel
This is my copy of Edgar Degas "The Millinery Shop"
I loved painting this. I'm glad I used the textured panel.  It gives a nice look to the lace on the hats.

"Parakeet"

8x10 Oil on linen
Our local zoo has a bird aviary filled with parakeets.  They will fly down and land on your hand so you can feed them.  This guy liked having his picture taken.

"Silver Teakettle"

11x14 Oil
I found this teakettle in a thrif store.  I don't think it's very old but I thought it had a lot of character.  The handle was interesting with the missing paint.  I painted this on a smooth Artist Panel with 1.5" sides.

Apples In Old Wooden Bowl

Apples In Old Wooden Bowl
Oil 12x12

Apples can be difficult to paint but also lots of fun.  I painted this for the Autumn challange on my painting forum.

Yellow Flowers In Mason Jar

Yellow Flowers In Mason Jar
Oil 16x12

I worked on this painting during the summer.  This one was painted on a textured Artist Panel.

Cornflowers In Glass Bottle

Cornflowers In Glass Bottle
Oil 16x16

I was trying to create a triad color scheme with this painting.  Red-Violet flowers with Yellow-Orange centers against a Blue-Green background.  I painted this on my new favorite surface.  Amperstand Smooth Aritist Panels.

Strolling Along the Seashore Copy

This is my copy of 'Strolling Along the Seashore' by Joaquin Sorolla.
I loved painting this. So many subtle value changes.  Trying to imitate his brush strokes was a great learning experience.

Flowers In Glass Bottle

10x10 oil
I thought I would try something different and fun.  I did a lot of black outline on this painting which I think gives it an interesting look. I definitely want to do more like this.

Copy of an Egar Payne

8x10 oil

My copy of an Egar Payne painting.
I learned a lot about working with color on this painting.

"Stork"
9x16 Oil

I was able to get a great photo of this stork while at the zoo. Of course she wasn't in a nest at the zoo.  But after researching storks I decided to place her in one.  This was so much fun to paint.  What did I learn from painting this?  I learned that you don't have to paint individual feathers.  Just indicate them with value changes.

Valerie took the picture and I got to paint it.

6x10 oil
I painted these from pictures I took while on our drive to Maine last September.  It was a foggy Saturday morning.  I enjoyed painting these.
"White Pitcher" and "Brown Teapot" 10x10 oil.
These were painted for a painting challenge.  The brown teapot was truly a challenge.
